Port Stephens is quickly gaining a reputation as the new ‘golfing capital’ of regional NSW with its impressive range of courses such as Horizons Golf Resort, Nelson Bay, Pacific Dunes, Tanilba Bay and Muree.
Now, the Salamander Bay-based golf course, Horizons Golf Resort has taken it to the next level and has brought Port Stephens into the limelight being crowned Golfer ‘NSW Favourite Golf Course’ for 2020!
The online competition was conducted state by state by Golfer and Crazy Golf Deals over a 3-4 week period. According to the organisers, they received more than 118,000 votes spread across 64 NSW clubs, with Horizons Golf Resort emerging as the eventual winner.
“The grand-final came down to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains and Horizons in Port Stephens, with Horizons attracting the larger number of votes to win the NSW Favourite award.”
Vince Owen, the head professional at Horizons Golf Resort, said that the membership was honoured to have received more than 1000 votes from the 1800 cast in the grand final.
“We won the poll with 59 per cent of the vote. The support from our members and golfing community is truly humbling, and we will continue to strive to provide superior golfing experiences to all who come through our gates.”
Mr Owen said that the win was a wonderful achievement for the club and due recognition for the many members and staff who support Horizons.
“We are pleased to be able to add another great badge to the Port Stephens region. Both the Port Stephens and Blue Mountains regions are in need of tourism as restrictions [brought on by the coronavirus pandemic] begin to ease.
“So for these two regions to feature in the grand final was a great result and an amazing promotion while showcasing golf at its best.”
Horizons is playing exceptionally well, having also entered the Australian Golf Digest Top 100 listing for 2020/21. It is now a regular feature on any golf trip to the Port Stephens and Hunter region.
